Watching the BAFTAS in your best dress
Dear Heart,
Happy Valentine's Day! I suppose that when you eventually read this, I will have told you all about my affection for February 14th. There's something very pure about it - aside from the horrible commercial prostitution of it all, Valentine's Day is about spending 24 hours falling in love over and over again. I remember countless girls in my schooldays feigning nonchalance, yet secretly checking their Jane Norman bags after break and lunch in case a secret admirer had slipped a paper heart inside.
I walked into town today to buy myself a pretty dress and read in a smoothie bar. I was my very own Valentine, and that was lovely. However, there was a terrible impulse to check my bed upon returning to see if a single soul, desperate for my affection, had broken into my locked room on the third florr to leave a paper heart on my duvet - a girlish hangover from school.
I very nearly put up a picture of Tom and Beccy, our (now former) hall group leaders. I couldn't have done it as well as Snippets of Life anyway! We will miss them very much, although no one as much as Matt, who was the last to leave and had to be kindly pushed out of the door clutching a slice of chocolate cake like a little boy.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Love, Lydia x
