You don't have to go home but you can't stay here

In the words of Mr Lyle Lovett who I saw many years ago with Mrs Smith in the Assembly Rooms....

So stack those chairs upon those tables
And stack those empties upon that bar
And count your money
And count my money
And hear those bottles ringing
You know where you are

Closing time
Unplug them people
And send them home
It's closing time

The night's all that's left behind
You take your part and I'll take mine
And go on home
It's closing time

Except it wasn't closing time, the door to The Mercat was opened as I was striding to the newsagent this morning so I knocked on the door, made the cleaner jump, apologised and blipped.

All the way back home I was humming that song though and I hadn't heard it in years.

Later on I was persuaded that taking the kids to see Gnomio and Juliet in 3D was a good idea. It really wasn't. Seven scriptwriters to rewrite Romeo and Juliet for garden gnomes - I ask you. The sound man obviously felt subversive too playing King Crimson and then Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" to an audience of kids and their parents who were all shuffling in their seats trying to avoid embarrassing questions.
