Spangles

Along with the slides featured yesterday, I also received several items collected by my late mum. She was a quiet royalist, God love her, and I am now the proud custodian of a box of souvenir tea-towels and magazines etc.
Among these is the 1953 Coronation Souvenir edition of the Picture Post. The best part of this periodical is the adverts, and this is the one that made us laugh the most.

Spangles were still quite a new phenomenon at this time, in production from 1950 until the early 1980s. BE says his favourites were the mustard coloured 'Old English' variety.

I wonder when the wording of this advert would have first been considered unsuitable for a boiled sweet?
