What a strange evening
Tonight on the spur of the moment we went to a new restaurant in the Brum, Cucina Rustica. It was average, and we should have guessed from the interior - "a trattoria updated to the last century" as my other half said.
Well, from there we went to the Jam House round the corner, to see if my friend was working. She wasn't, and it was bare empty and smelt of wee.
The church bells of St Paul's were chiming a demented acid-fuelled cadence so we stopped in to look inside. A note about 'drug taking and drug making not being permitted in the church' was adjacent to a warning about climbing the bell tower, where 'plenty of opportunities existed for falling down the very steep stairs'; somehow sounded like almost like fun. Inside, the bells were inaudible and a local residents' meeting (it seemed) was being held to discuss the Christmas refuse collections. while a strange man at a table by the pews seemed to be writing his memoirs rather sadly.
We left there and trailed around the Jewellery Quarter trying to find the way out, and hit upon the new, unspeakably massive, 24 hour Tesco, which is where we found this. Of course, we "only popped in to get some bread" and came out with:
- a 40 litre plastic box (for brining meat for popstrami, of course)
- 500g of Marmite (have you ever seen 500g of the stuff?? Depending on whether you're a lover or a hater, it's uplifting or catastrophic)
-Warburton's crumpets - the best
... and assorted other slightly pointless items
It really was all quite unexpected.
Incidentally, my leg waxer, who works in the Jewellery Quarter, refers to a certain part of female anatomy as a 'fufu', so there you go. Some nice circularity there.
