Framer's Intent...

Continuing The Bus Series

I spent today pouring over photobooks. Sudek, Sommer, Tony Ray-Jones (now on loan to me; I am very very lucky), the early years of Open Eye documented (1979-1981), and Tom Wood's Over Here Photie Man.

I wanted to return to Photie Man to take a look at some of the bus pictures. Someone commented recently that my work looks like I've drawn a lot from Tom. As much as I adore his work, if anything, I've actually deliberately tried to avoid looking at his bus images to avoid being too heavily influenced. And I don't think my images do really look like much like his. Interesting one.

I spent a good deal of time with the Ray-Jones as well. I shall be living with this one for a while, I suspect. Not least for the biographical details included in the book. I feel like a new fire has been lit under me with this. Although I'm not sure how much I'll be directly influenced, his dedication t his work is palpable and inspiring.

Last night, I had the privilege of speaking to Martin Parr by phone. I ought to say that he is very nice, and both very charming and down-to-earth to speak to. I thoroughly enjoyed our brief chat, and I look forward to representing him well with the Look11 exhibition we have planned.

I think this image worked out better than yesterday's attempt. But thanks for the comments on that one - I appreciate it. Just trying to maintain the highest standards and keep growing. I can't wait to see what I am producing 5 years from now, or 10 years. It fills me with excitement, and it inspires me to keep working hard. :-)
