It was a grand old house....
After leaving Dad today, we went by the Old House again. I toured the inside this time. The interior was a shambles. Ceilings falling down, floors buckling, walls crumbling. Anything with any architectural value was pretty much stripped - doors, molding, hinges, light fixtures, etc. Most of the rooms had cabinets built into the 3 foot thick stone walls. There were servants quarters above the kitchen. All of the rooms were huge with very large windows - two in each - and a slate roof.
At one time it was a grand old house. It was someone's home - well built and probably much loved. No one but owls and raccoons have lived there for decades. Sad really. It is well beyond any remodeling now but I would like to go back and get some of the floorboards and cross beams. Even the window sills and what was left of the stairwell would make a wonderful garden shed. Maybe one day I will put forth the effort and find the current owner. One day......
The picture is from my phone. I had my camera but no memory card inside. Silly me.
