Malibu - Day 1
After a short 2 hour flight, we got into Malibu to meet C&C.
We're camping at the Leo Carrillo state park for the week. Stopped off to get some supplies, and one stop was a cute little farmer stand - Vital Zuman Organic Farm. We got some great stuff there: delicata squash, meyer lemons, fig jam, new red potatoes, and basil infused lemonade and balsamic infused lemonade. Just being there for give minutes makes me long to live on a farm and grow an abundance of fruits, veggies and learn how to can and make jams.
Afterwards, we settled in nicely with a campfire and beer. C put together a tasty spread with cheese, crackers, olives, nuts, fig jam and asian pear (that she got from the farmer's stand).
Then the evening got going when C started making some "dark and stormys", which is a lovely concoction of dark rum, ginger beer and lime, but we used meyer lemons instead. We burned through 1.5 bottles of rum between the 3 if us (but it was mainly the boys....not I). C was smart and stuck with wine instead.
C then put together a delicious penne tossed with arugula, asparagus, ricotta and parmesan. A lovely recipe from NYT.
A fantastic evening all around. Not bad for the first 12 hours of vacation.
