Sgwarnog: In the Field

River of Grass

I didn't venture out much today, but those that did reported that the rivers Aire and Wharfe had risen rapidly in the wake of the heavy rain of the past few days.

Up here on the moors the ground soaks the water up to a degree, but during and after heavy rain we get many temporary streams, and paths and sedate ditches can turn to torrents.

This ditch/stream drains down from the Baildon Moor reservoirs, and is normally little more than a trickle - a hazard running alongside the first fairway of the golf course. Today it was being a bit more lively, spilling over onto the turf, on its way down to the Aire.

I might get a chance to see one of the bigger rivers tomorrow, as I have a day off and will try to get out somewhere for a walk, although more heavy rain is forecast for the morning.
