Cowhorn has been used since before the Middle Ages. The most useful objects that were made from cowhorn were drinking vessels, powder horns and ancient trumpet horns. It was also used for "glazing" small windows.

In Britain, farmers tend to dehorn their calves to prevent their animals from harming one another or getting stuck in feeders. We bought a few Hereford cows a couple of years ago to add to our herd from a farmer who never dehorns his cattle and they have settled down well without any problems so far.

Another dark and windy day. T went with friends down to a point-to-point near Exeter. A local girl was racing for the first time so I hope all went well for her.
