Mammose lichen

I immediately came to think of Kiwidino's mammose clouds yesterday when I found one of my favourite crustose lichens today. It's Diploschistes scruposus ("groplav" in Swedish, meaning "pit lichen"), growing on a vertical rock surface.

The "pits" contain the spore-producing organs, apothecia. The reddish tinge comes from the algal part which has a lot of carotenoids.

I wasn't sure that the light would be enough, so I was really happy when this pic turned out to be quite OK.
