This is part of a new instrument we have had delivered at work and as such is quite a departure from my usual stuff since it represents the apex of scientific advancement.

However I have a horrible suspicion these instruments are sentient. One of ours seems to be inhabited by a demon that disconnects on a Friday afternoon almost without fail, no matter how much or how little work it has done during the week. The other two plot together to come up with the most bizarre faults possible, one will develop the fault first and the other will develop the exact same two or three days later. From talking to the manufacturers this is a UK wide problem so groups of these things come down with the same fault one week then they come down with something else the next. How do they know?

This is why my toolkit contains a really big monkey wrench and a bottle of holy water.
