Logistics
After a wild night of high winds (gusts recorded of 122mph) and our hens doing a wee Dorothy impression with a short flight over the garden whilst still inside their house*, the small matter of travel and transport was slightly chaotic.
8 am - The Churchill barriers (which we have to get across to get to the Orkney mainland) were closed this morning, which meant no school transport to the mainland (no 1 son at home) and no teachers able to get to our island so primary school shut (no 2 sone home), no bus running (Steven can't get to work) and I'm supposed to be picking up a client who is flying in from Westray at 9.25 and I can't get to the airport.
9.30am - barriers opening. No 1 son stuck at home and no 2 lined up to cycle down to school for the school opening at 11.30. Steven and I head for the mainland. LOTS of water still coming over the top bof the barriers but Steven's driving and I distract myself from the slightly scary waves crashing down by attempting to take pictures as we cross. Pics all blurry and just missing the point of most drama but I think you might be able to catch the general atmosphere.
Doesn't help when you've got this song going round your head.
* All the chooks are fine, just a couple of smashed eggs.
