Aspire Zone
A slightly lazy blip from me today as unfortunately I didn't have an oppertunity to catch something in the daylight.
This is the part of the Aspire Zone in Doha, which was built to host the Asian Games in 2006. The photo shows the Khalifa Stadium, a 40,000 seat venue which has hosted quite a few in international football matches (including England V Brazil) and also the Aspire Tower, which until recently was the tallest tower in Doha at 300m (soon to be overshadowed by the QNB Tower at 510m).
During the games the torch was lit at the top of the tower, making it visibly through the whole of Doha (you can just see the cone which carried the torch at the top in the blip.) There is also a swimming pool half way up which cantilevers out of the side of the structure. I'll try and get a better blip in the daylight before I leave as the latticework structure of the tower is quite beautiful, and provides a fantastic façade, hiding the hard working concrete structure within.
