Argyll Arcade
Had to take the car to Glasgow for a repair today. It still hasn't been repaired but that is a whole other story.
Anyway, to pass the time we went shopping. It was a horrible wet blustery day but it was dry and bright in the Argyll Arcade. The L-shaped arcade is one of Europe's oldest covered shopping arcades and was built in 1827. It was Grade A listed in 1970 in recognition of it's fine examples of early Victorian architecture. It is noted for it's novel use of cast iron construction methods and it's glass roof is supported with ornate "hammer-beam" roof trusses. There are over 30 jewellers and diamond merchants housed within the arcade.
History lesson over.
P.S. Didn't buy anything!
