had to get out and go for a walk this afternoon and now I am running late (giving a public lecture this evening).
This is the Grandstand at the Knavesmire and the old Terry's chocolate factory, where they used to make Chocolate Oranges until a few years ago. I live less than a mile away and every little while they must have gone through a cleaning process which made everywhere smell of burnt chocolate.
I am told that when you worked there you were allowed to eat as much chocolate as you liked during your shift, on the grounds that after a few weeks, you wouldn't want to!
Nowadays the factory is empty while various property developers negotiate with the City Council about flats and hotels and whatnot. Given the state of the economy and the demands of the Council, I expect it to stay empty for several years to come. A pity.
