Straight off the plane, I was inundated with offers for a taxi, all of which were quoting greatly increased rates due to the protests. I eventually settled for Mohamed, who drove like a complete nutter, and at one point even tried to get a lighter for his cigarette from a moving truck.

The way home saw witness to the most unusual sight of tanks on the streets. I saw about a dozen in total, as part of the Egyptian Army's attempt to restore some order on the streets of Cairo after a couple of days of violence and looting.
