14. The Moment

We've come this far
And now we're just standing here
What if it was the last time?
Can we pretend it was the last time?
You know, the snow
It paints this picture around us that only we are blind to
Now if someone took a picture
Of us facing each other
With the snow all around, not brushing us, only us
encircling us, tracing our outlines
Moments from goodbye
You know what it would look like, right?
For a moment we just stand there
And we're both thinking the same thing, this is the edge
It's the time of turning, who admits, who bends first?

We both hold our breath.

A single snowflake lands on your hair, the division of rational, the spell is broken
and we snap back to our logical realities,
heads down, faces sullen.
The Moment passes.
I say goodbye, and start to board.

Years later, I come back to you
The same as I was before
But it'd unconsciously been whispered in my mind
Hundreds and thousands of times
That if I would knock upon your door,
They wouldn't open anymore.
