The Chaos Bros

Vane Farm

A family day out to the RSPB Reserve at Vane Farm.

The RSPB were holding a bird ringing day as part of their Big Garden Birdwatch weekend. It was a really hands on learning activity with the 3 biggest Bros all participating. The Bros got to go up to the nets where the birds were being caught, watch them being untangled and bagged ready to be documented. They were shown how and why the rings were put on their legs, what information was recorded about each bird, species, gender, wingspan, weight and approximate age. The staff were all excellent, really patient with all the children's questions and obviously keen to pass on their wealth of knowledge, explaining everything to the children and encouraging them to actively particpate in the process.

The best bit of all, they all got quite a few chances at releasing the birds. They released Goldfinches, Greenfinches, Great Tits, Long Tailed Tits and Coal Tits.

This shot is of Bro1 about to release a Coal Tit.
