Celtic Cross
Apologies everyone for any delays in commenting on your recent blips. We had an Internet problem last night and were off the air for several hours. Some technical problem at a transmitter or something like that in Waterford, some 120kms away. The whole region was blacked out right at the time when I would have been commenting.
Ok, today's blip. I went back to the pyramid, which as I mentioned last September is actually a mausoleum for one of the local wealthy and titled families from long ago. Basically it's an enormous tombstone with the family crypt down below. There was once a church on the site too and there is still a pretty tumbledown graveyard on the site. Today's subject is a tombstone in the form of a Celtic Cross. This style of cross goes back almost to the dawn of recorded history and examples can be seen all over the country in old monastic sites. This one of course, isn't that old, just dating back to the late 18th century. Celtic Cross tombstones used to be popular among families who had enough cash to pay a stonemason to do all the intricate work but are rare now as most modern graveyards have limits on the size of any memorial raised.
Have a nice weekend everybody. I will try to catch up on your blips between now and tomorrow evening.
