Egypt
I've been watching and reading about events unfolding in Cairo and other cities in Egypt for most of the day.
It started for me this morning on Twitter, through following several people and news agencies reporting events as they happened. I'd see things on twitter reported and retweeted then corroborated by others then confirmed by a news agency. The Internet had been taken down, phone networks were complying with government requests to stop service, armoured vans were set alight, police were pouring petrol in the main square in preparation of the protesters and later that they were leaving their uniforms in the lobby of someone's grandmother's building as they defected. It was staggering to read this first hand from someone with a phone in the middle of the riot.
On returning home from work I sat and watched the things I had read about on Al Jazeera and BBC Newsnight. I was by turns amazed and saddened at the scenes I was watching and the political rhetoric being spouted by UK & US governments which were so disconnected from reality, they were laughable.
I hope the Egyptian people achieve the change they so desperately want and need.
