Surprised Heron

I passed this heron on the way back home after meeting with a client. He was standing on the muddy area you see to his left.

I parked my car about 200' up the raod and walked quietly back hoping to catch him before he saw me. That was not to happen.

When I got to the culvert that allows the tidal creek to pass under the road, the heron was nowhere to be found. I was taking a couple of shots of the area when the heron, actually below me in the culvert and out of site, took off. These are big birds!

I was able to get a few shots off, but none turned out as sharp as I would have liked. I had the wrong mens on too (50mm f/1.4), but it ws still fun.
