Or Mergus merganser. Dropped the car off for its annual service & MOT first thing then caught the bus to Slateford Road, and walked up beside the canal (after climbing 88 steps to get to the top of the aqueduct). I was hoping to see the cormorant again but instead this handsome pair were swimming around near the same spot. I had to look them up to find out what type of duck they were. Mrs Goosander has a delightful reddish brown mullet.
