Wasps Nest
This wasps nest appeared over our garage door last summer and was buzzing with activity. Now quiet, finally decided to take it down today.
The nest feels like flimsy paper which is not surprising seeing as the wasps gather wood fibres and soften them by mixing with saliva to produce a kind of wood pulp, which can then be used to make combs with the cells you can see for brood rearing.
The colours are amazingly subtle but vary from cream through brown to a deep burgundy, not easy to show.
