Fresh lettuce
I had to go to give an estimate today, but when I arrived the client was not there.
I had planned to go on and then look for a blip. Instead I came home, in the pouring rain, under grey skies.
The good news is that one of the last lettuce plants growing in my GrowMate greenhouse is still looking edible, despite a few manky leaves. It has been there since the autumn, besides the leeks, various herbs and the new mosses you can see which have wormed their way in as well as a few volunteers weeds.
I expect we'll eat the lettuce at the weekend. Till then it provides a gorgeous bit of colour for my blip and a good view from the window.
ps
The GrowMate is a wonderful pyramid shaped, rotating greenhouse for small spaces. It was designed and built by Helena's uncle Andrew near Oban, in Argyll. You can see here through the door frame, which normally contains the clear plastic removable door. The whole array of the other five glass panes swivels around a central pole allowing access to all parts of the soil, as well as having rotating shelving, suspended from the pole, in order to keep portable plants in a protected, warm space. All in all it is a fantastic addition to any garden.
