Virga over the Forth

Virga is rain that falls from a cloud and which then evaporates before reaching the ground. Usually the virgin rain is swept to one side as the lower air mass moves at a different speed/direction.

Today, the lower wind was blowing strongly to the ENE, sweeping the virga out towards the North Sea past the prominent Berwick Law (East Lothian).

The ship in the distance is the 'Navigo', a Chemical / Oil Products Tanker waiting its turn to move up the Forth to Grangemouth.

So you want to know about the gull as well?
It is a juvenile herring gull - one of three flying around whilst I was taking this view. Unfortunately, they wouldn't follow my stage directions and get into place so I took it without the gull, then, with the lens at the same focal length to preserve perspective and scale, I followed the gull's flight path and captured it 40 seconds and 2 frames later.
