The Barong
It all starts from the leaves of a plant variety belonging to the pineapple family. The leaves are dried and it's thread-like fibers are separated and left out to bleach and dry under the tropical sun. It is then woven into cloth, embroidered by expert hands and sewn into a Barong. This is our equivalent to the Western suit or tux. Usually worn by men during formal gatherings, it is light and airy and suited to our warm weather.
This is the hubby's barong in need of some ironing. He'll be wearing it this weekend to a wedding.
