I left it rather late to go out this afternoon and the sunshine had taken its leave by lunchtime anyway. I parked in Martinslade, intrigued by some Diverted Traffic signs that appeared to lead to a farm track, and indeed led unsuspecting traffic onto a path that petered out as it became a footpath that led to the canal. The waters seemed happily free of drowning vehicles, but the towpath west was blocked off because of some engineering works further down, scuppering my intended path.
No matter, I set off eastwards instead which led me back towards Foxhangers, where I'd walked a couple of weeks ago. The light was poor.
I had nearly returned to the starting point, just after sunset, when I came across this pair of swans, who glided up to the narrowboat I had just passed, just as the occupant had emerged from the front and nimbly walked along the running board on the side of the boat and started up the engine at the back.
Maybe they were hoping for a tidbit. They were out of luck, but I got my picture, and that's the main thing.
