Football Blues

Inspired by YoungPoet, I found a poem.

For crying out loud
You'll win nothing with kids
100 Years of football
A game of two halves
When will there be good news?
Get her off the pitch
Modern Football is Rubbish

I spent this morning at the sidelines of the pitch with my boy. His team surely have the Football Blues. Today they battled their hearts out, well most of them did, and yet victory still eluded them. Their heads have been down for some time now. Try as they may they cannot ride their luck. You know how they are feeling by the slow but sure appearance of mums - each one wishing them to win, knowing that they keep the peace, and pick up the pieces afterwards. My boy was outstanding, didn't put a foot wrong, and managed to get a few feet in the right place at the right time - thud! No foul given, they were fair tackles.

I have so many memories of football as a child. My first is of the teleprinter and being mesmorised by it clak, claking away every Saturday tea-time. If I was lucky my Dad would let me choose one of the crosses on his spot the ball. We never won. Dad took my sister and I to see the Hibees - well he didn't get his boy so someone had to be his excuse. No family enclosures then, we heard and saw it all. I'm have no scars, no fear of big cursing bruts.

Later, when I could be trusted, I was allowed to note down the whole of the English and Scottish league scores against his pools coupon. We never won.

I watched my girl play football at McDairmid Park as a warm up for Scotland. I have watched many of my boys matches and still love to shout (positively of course) from the sidelines.

Today however, I did feel the need to remind the Ref that that boy who was being kicked up a height by the oppositions number 9, that boy was my boy, and should he come to any harm, He'd be gettin it later!

P.S. Just noticed I've been the victim of the one star vandal. Ah well, I must be good to deserve their attention. Thanks[/i
