Footprints in stone

I was walking at one of St Andrews beaches and noticed the stone. Being a fan of Primeval (I know but someone has to be) I thought of prehistoric footprints. I wonder which animal could make a footprint like this.

There must be a lot of iron in the stone for it to weather in this way.
