Cropping up

One thing that keeps cropping up for dealing with depression is that exercise is a great way to keep one's mood stable. Unfortunately, if there's one thing that most definitely does not help a stable mood here in Cairo, it's all the beeping fuckwits in their frantic drive to get wherever they're going as quickly as possible, meaning the roads of Maadi (one of the supposed nicer places in Cairo) are stressful enough to just walk along, let alone jog or cycle. With gyms generally being occupied by the overly attractive fit athletic types, and with my reluctance to wear any sort of clothing that looks vaguely sporty, I decided to pop along to Carrefour and to buy a cheapy cross-trainer which is now sitting in its box waiting to be assembled.

I couldn't be arsed assembling it (one step at a time), and so instead took a wee wander outside with the camera. Contrary to popular belief, it's not hot all the time in Egypt, and the weather here in Cairo at the moment is wonderful. Crisp is the term used for similar weather in the UK where it's sunny, but more than a little nippy too. (It does get a little bit too chilly in the evening, and what with there being no heating in our flat, we resort to doubling up socks and grabbing the spare duvet to keep warm.)

Many of the cars on the road out here wouldn't pass a swift kick to the bumper, let alone a UK style MOT. Once they become beyond repair, they're just dumped at the side of the road where they remain indefinitely. This particular car has sat in a sandy grave as long as I've been here, but a couple of weeks ago someone dug it out and gave it a wee clean.

My photo-mojo at the moment appears to be favouring these old motors, which I'm sure is rather dull for most of you, but I'll get bored of them soon, I promise. (Probably when smithski stops favouriting them.)
