Zoe & fashion
Zoe spent a long time today fussing with her outfit today and her two bobby-pinned streaks of blue hair (which look cooler in person, the flash made them look too shiny). I snapped a pic because she looked cute and this is just a foreshadowing of what is to come. She is in the last half of 5th grade. Zoe has ALWAYS been very particular about what she wears. I have never been able to pick out her day to day outfits, but I have always been able to peg her style. She usually picks a "uniform" or genre and sticks with it. Hopefully, that will stay the case, but I doubt it. The benefit of me being able to peg her style is that I can come home with cute clothes on sale and I can go shopping for her alone. I think that wonderful era may be coming to an end.
She really wants to be involved now. When we both go, she is dazzled by the bright and the shiny and all the options.....and idea of reinventing herself. I totally understand that. But, half the time, she picks out pricey stuff that she never wears. I totally have done that too. I totally understand that fashion is very important to her. It is very important to me too. I just don't want it to get in the way of our relationship and our budget.
We also tend to argue when we go together. I don't want to be that mom snipping at her daughter in the store. But, over my dead body will Zoe get to buy shorts that don't cover her butt. Part of the problem is that she mainly wants to shop at Justice. That store makes me insane. At least 1/3 of the clothes in that store are icky. Can we please just go back to my wonderful Gap where I have bought clothes for them that are cute, stylish and good quality since they were newborns? They have wonderful sales there. Please, oh please? Maybe next year.
Fortunately, Ava is fashion-cooperative. To quote Zoe, "she will wear anything." :)
