Every day is slaughter day

I'm not sure I understand why wanting to kill 4 people constitutes a bad day. Indiscriminate carnage on a train would be a bad day. Yesterday was pretty normal, although it's interesting that three of the four were transport related as are today's. There's the two blokes on the bus talking across the aisles. They do this every day (although most days there's three of them). It wouldn't be so bad if they turned to face each other. Not so bad if they sat on the same row of seats. But no, they're on opposite sides of the bus, facing forward and a row apart so that George - the little skinny bird-faced guy -has to continually turn round to loudly provide another comment about the Hibs, the weather or the fishing to Lennie. At least Lennie only has two levels of grunt that he uses in reply. Come to think of it, maybe just George.

They were OK once I'd got my headphones on and only had to watch them. Then there was the conductor on the train. Just rude. Actually there was a third - the lying liar at the coffee police box at John Lewis. It's lunch time and it went like this

[Me] Hi, could I have an espresso please?

[Coffee guy] Sure. starts doing coffee things very, very slowly

[Me] What time do you open in the morning?

[CG] 7.30

[Me] Really? It's just that I passed this morning about quarter to eight and it was closed. Same yesterday although it was nearer eight. I know it was after 7.30 because my train doesn't get in until 7.35.

[CG] Well, I was here at 7.30 this morning but it was 8 before I opened yesterday

[Me] Ah well. Inwardly - lying lying liar!

And the coffee was shit. So I killed him. In my head. Like in a cartoon.

The only reason I wanted the coffee stand open at 7.30 was so I could try something like this. A wee puddle of light in a sea of darkness uninterrupted by taxis and commuters without completely copying Tonto. This was on the way home tonight. There's a coffee woman in there if you look closely.

And that was a good day. I'm in love with my headphones so all this was to a soundtrack of:

Bus / train - Drever, McCusker and Woomble
Morning walk - Echo and the Bunnymen
Lunchtime walk - Edwyn Collins
Walk to the station - Robin Guthrie
Train - Rod Jones

With a bit of Philip Selway and some Karine Polwart at work.
