Lake Matheson

Probably the most photographed lake in NZ.

On a perfect day, the Southern Alps are reflected in the lake like a mirror. Frankly, it is easier to buy a print than hope to achieve this on your visit!

If the lake is still, the mountains are cloud-hidden. If the mountains are clear, the lake is wind-blown!

Sometimes you get an 'almost' day, like this one - and if you visit often or are extremely lucky, you might just get the perfect score!! A still lake and well lit mountains.

It's lovely anyway - and the cafe serves an excellent breakfast!
