Robber Fly

Neoitamus. Also known as assassin fly because it captures its prey in flight, holding it with those big claws as it bites its neck to paralyse it. Then it sucks out the victim's innards. Sounds like something from a horror movie. This one was 2cm long.

This is a Super Macro on my Powershot, boosted with a 10x filter wedged onto the fixed lens. Hand held. The green dome in its tail is a drop of water- it was misty.
