Day 2: First Day at Sea

Our first full day on the ship, so we spent some time exploring. Every area was beautifully decorated with a different theme. Some of my favorites included the Taj Mahal Lounge (a large auditorium with glittering walls and classy blue lanterns), the Sunset Garden (a peaceful backyard-like oasis with large windows), and Starry Nights Lounge (a dim, intimate lounge with replicas of Van Gogh's Starry Nights on the wall and a carpet to match). This is a picture of the walls of the staircase leading to the appropriately named Butterflies Lounge. After close inspection, we determined that the butterflies were real and that each one was different. Despite the creepiness of being surrounded by hundreds of dead butterflies mounted on the wall, it was great to be able to see all the different types of butterflies up close. Other highlights of the day were: watching an ice carving demo, seeing plumes of steam rising off the ocean because the water was so much warmer than the air, getting dolled up for Captain's night, and lobster dinner. YUMM!
