Dudes

I was the lucky recipient of some freaky light today as the sun reflected off glass front of the Royal Mail building and back into Custom House Square. This had the effect of backlighting the skater dudes as they threw themselves around the paved area with some abandon. This gave me some nice effects and in some cases, with the light the way it was, they look Photoshopped into the pictures.

My original plan was to drive up to Milltown cemetery in Belfast where I remembered there were some graves from WWII, including those of some Polish, Canadian and local veterans. I found the graves OK, even though I hadn't seen them in over thirty years. However, directly behind them was an uneven area with small unofficial markings such as white wooden crosses, plastic flowers and toys. It turns out that this was an unofficial unmarked burial ground for up to 11,000 unbaptised children over the last hundred years. Not really Blipping material, but a very poignant sight. The discovery of this site has been the subject of a bit of a scandal in Belfast over the last few years as part of the site had been sold to developers. Many of the families are campaigning for a memorial garden but in the meantime have made their own efforts to remember.
