Queen of the Night
Philip Jackson's seated Queen of the Night.
I pass several of his sculptures on my regular route and often stop to allow myself the treat of being with them.
Many of his sculptures are 'robed, masked or faceless figures reminiscent of 18th century Venetian procurators' and quite startling, especially in their scale and elegance.
Queen of the Night is a modest five foot bronze on a plinth. I especially like the shape of the headdress with its subtle detailing, against the warmth of the bricks. It was almost dark when I took this on my way home.
Philip Jackson MA FRBS FRSA was born in Inverness in 1944 and now lives and works in West Sussex. He has a website with stunning images of his work, if you want to follow up.
