The Burning Wotsit
Took the class to the local high school today for some "burning" work. It's great for a primary school to have strong links with their local secondary for many reasons, and use of a specialist department's resources is a big one.
We had in tended to find out which flavour of Wotsit contained more energy, cheese or prawn cocktail, by burning them then measuring how much hotter they made the water.
Results were...inconclusive. But playing with Bunsen burners and test tubes was fun and that's part of it too. By the time modern P7 pupils finally go to high school they have had so many visits and cluster activities that it really feels like no big deal to them.
