Forth Bridge

The Forth Railway Bridge, older than anyone alive today, connects my home county, the Kingdom of Fife, to our nations capital, Edinburgh.

I've crossed this bridge hundreds of times in my life, but it never fails to fascinate me, it is the second longest cantilever rail bridge in the world (stripped of its title in 1917 by the Quebec Bridge). As most people know, the bridge constantly needs painted to prevent it from rusting, but once they finish the bridge, they can be proud; but not for too long, as they need to start again straight away!

A less known fact, however, is that the current painting of the bridge will be the last for 40 years, as they are stripping right back to the steel to re-enforce it with a new stronger paint.

If you ever come to Edinburgh, take a trip to the bridge, it's up there with Brooklyn, Sydney Harbour, and Tower Bridge in the worlds top!
