Mossy
The disused Thames & Severn canal beyond Daneway is mossy, both in the old fashioned sense and vegetatively. We walked through tangled trees where the river Frome and the canal run along side each other, to the point where the canal disappears into Sapperton tunnel. At over 2 miles long it was, when first opened in 1789, the longest tunnel in the country. Parts of the canal are now being restored but I don't know what the status is for this section. So when, if ever, it gets restored I do hope the old mossy beech trees can be left to make their twisty splash of green through the winter months.
