Mens bar

I visited this local hotel before Christmas and was agog at the memorabilia on display. On closer inspection, I realised it wasn't on display; the place simply hasn't seen a lick of paint, or the renovator's ladder for decades.

There are rugby shirts dating back twenty years, signed tour photographs of the 1949 All Blacks, the Springboks of the early '50s and hundreds of ties in glass cases. On every wall there are black and white photographs from a South Africa of a bygone age. It's a fantastic spot and yelled for a photographic outing.

Having got the OK from the manager a couple of days back, I headed that way today with a mixture of photographic technology; digital, an M4 Leica and my ancient, but trusty Hasselblad C500 - the latter pair loaded with fresh rolls of HP5, to be shot at ISO 1600 - who wants to avoid grain on a shoot like this?

Today's Blip is digital, shot with my D2x just prior to leaving. It's a quick study to record the day. The film will go in for processing on Monday (I have to take it all the way into Cape Town) and I'm mentally hopping from foot to foot waiting.

Of course, there will then be contacts to do and scanning, but (hopefully) by the end of next week, I'll have some really interesting images to print...
