Up on the farm
Headed out through Algies into the farmland beyond, after first climbing the hill into Highfields, where I was delighted by the aftermath of what was probably a very dramatic sunrise. What I saw was still highly colourful, and bright. Lots of dark cloud with orange highlights, separated by blue sky. In capturing the sky, I deliberately omitted all views of the sea, and maybe for that reason was less than fully satisfied with the results. I had constrained myself just a bit too much.
Into the countryside and came across a group of steers which have been in paddocks well away from the road since more than two weeks ago (I actually saw the farmer moving them while on one of my earlier runs during this holiday). This very strong looking young fellow obligingly moved into an excellent position for the photograph. Closer to the road, and where I could get the sun (at this stage well up and very bright) behind some vegetation to lessen the dazzle effect.
I have cropped the image very slightly, increased the contrast and definition, darkened the highlights and lightened the shadows. The end result is basically what I saw; the camera having difficulty managing the multiple levels of light.
This morning we were visited by good friends with whom we have been out of touch since coming here a month ago with family. After a catch up chat, we went to a local vineyard with a restaurant for lunch, accompanied by their very excellent estate grown merlot rose. Lots of fruit characteristics, and perfect for a lunch in the sun looking over the vines out to the countryside and distant hills. (Bought a few bottles to enjoy back in Auckland.)
Wonderful day.
