Grandfather clock
We went to visit my parents today. This clock has been sitting here (or near here) all my life. I remember as a wee girl it was moved because antique dealers used to call at the door asking if you had any antiques you wanted rid of and they always asked about this clock so it was moved so they wouldn't see it. Not sure it's actually that good a specimen but I like it.
It reminds me of the song "My Grandfather's Clock" written in 1876. Apparently the song is responsible for the common name "grandfather clock" being applied to the longcase clock.
Here's the first verse:
My grandfather's clock
Was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half
Than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn
Of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;
But it stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.
Had a great night with some blippers and friends. Thanks for coming and thanks for the food offerings! x
