Black Country Stories
Great day today!
I visited my first ever photography exhibition! Black Country Stories by Martin Parr.
The first time I heard of him was on a crappy channel 4 TV show called how to take stunning photographs. He was was one of the highlights of the series and I really liked his quirky style.
Mes L and son had absolutely no interest in going so I set off alone with a bit of a sore head from the night before. When I arrived my first surprise was the building! The Public is a new venue built in West Bromwich and isn't what I expected at all! It's very modern looking and very pink! Before I entered I stopped to take some photos of the building and was cautioned by a Police officer for photographing public buildings! Unbelievable. He took my name, address and date of birth but I can't see that anything will come of it??
The exhibition itself was strange. I have to say the photography didn't impress me? I'm really glad I went and will certainly start making an effort to go to more exhibitions but the subject matter was...well... a bit boring! I can see what he was trying to achieve but for me it was just like looking through random peoples photo albums? Shame because I really like his style on the website.
So I headed home and found a bargain new camera bag on the Jessops website so ordered it to pick up from the Worcester store and headed off with the family to do a bit of retail therapy. When I got to Jessops they hadn't got it!! Great system! Thanks for your help! Oh well Will got a nice magic book and a magnifying glass which should provide a few more blips in the future!
