Apostle Tree
Twelve apostles stand tall;
as their namesakes found,
they are not safe forever.
Twelve sweet chestnuts have grown together forming a solid base two to three feet high before branching out into individuals. When we came to live here ten years ago, we christened it the Apostle Tree. But sebsequent storms have taken the tops off a couple of the Apostles, although their boles are still strong.
The centre of the circle makes a wonderful refuge for child or adult, if you can climb and squeeze in. It's a while since I did that, and I took this by laying my trusty little point-and-squeeze camera in the centre, taking several images. It was strange how different atmospheres were created, sometimes quite menacing, depending how much of the trees were showing and crowding in.
I chose this one as it felt more friendly.
