maybe 7 or 8 years ago, I was in an exhibition that was based around ideas of reduction in post-war art (or minimalism...) and I was looking at an IIIIIIII IIII Agnes Martin IIIII IIIIIIII piece when I became aware that my exhibition companion was spending rather a lot of time engrossed by a ventilation grill...

incidentally, in the same exhibition I also followed the film director John Waters around until he ended up in the gallery shop where he bought a stack of postcards of an Ad Reinhardt black painting - maybe 100 postcards all the same

so,

quite neatly and back to the grill, the same Ad Reinhardt once explained that "Art is Art. Everything else is everything else"
