Two Crosses Over Buttermere

St. James' church at Buttermere in the Lake District is very small but beautifully located above the village. It stands at the junction of the roads over Honister Pass and Newland Pass, as if in the past to offer solace and comfort to the weary traveller. Although the site was consecrated around 1500, the church itself dates from 1840, and has more recently become home to the A.W. Wainwright memorial.
