Central Arcade- Newcastle.

Tuesday is my day off, and I usually spend it doing shopping, and chores.
Today my Husband and I did something we haven't done for years, we went to the cinema in the afternoon. We saw a wonderful film, The King's Speech, which we found quite moving, and very well acted.
On our way back to the car we passed through the Central Arcade. This is an Edwardian arcade, built in 1906, in the Central Exchange, a triangular building built by Richard Grainger in 1836-38. I am always amazed at something so decorative and so beautiful, built to house shops.
There were two other arcades in the city equally as beautiful, but they were demolished in the 60s to make way for roads and buildings. I believe one of them, the Royal Arcade, was taken down piece by piece and stored, to be rebuilt somewhere else, but I do not know where it is now.
