Long Happy Day
I spent a long day in the snow covered Pentland Hills today.
It was the Carnethy Junior/Senior Relay at Flotterstone. This light-hearted, fun event is held every year at this time and involves teams of three people running together up and around Turnhouse Hill. The teams comprise an adult, a young child and a more senior child. The younger child runs half way up the hill and then circles back to the start. The older child goes about three quarters of the way up the hill and circles back to the start. The adult goes all the way up the hill (approx 1000ft climb), down the other side, round the base and back to the start.
I ran from Currie to Flotterstone over the hills. The Pentlands have a good covering of snow and the weather was good so, with the sun just rising, there was beauty in every direction.
Following the race, and a spell in the Flottersone Inn, I made my way back as the sun began to set, giving yet more spectacular views. This meant I had spent most of the daylight hours, and some of the darker ones, on the hills. A good way to spend the day, although almost 17 miles meant I was quite weary by the time I got home.
I have not gone for a spectacular view of the Pentlands shrouded in snow as this is covered rather well in this blip. Instead here are these rather cute looking characters who maybe thought I had food for them.
