Bad news: - Enough to make me nervous
That is a lot of people on a planet that already seems stretched to the max. Less consumption, greed and more conservation might be in order. If one thinks about it though, there are such large sections of the earth that is uninhabitable, scientists may have to start working on enclosed, self-sufficient domes in the middle of deserts soon.

Good Encouraging news: - A big round of applause for Italy
Banning plastic bags, what a splendid idea. While I'm not ignorant to the wonders of plastic and how its various incarnations have saved lives or improved life in general, I fail to see why we can't carry our groceries home in cloth or recyclable paper. It's just a no-brainer. Of course, the manufacturer of plastic bags will have to diversify but somehow I'm not overcome with sympathy for them.
